Chapter 8

A family of eight sit down to dinner as their father comes home from work. The father tired from his day leans on the front door before going to open the door, however his weight from leaning on the door is enough to rip it from it’s hinges and send the father falling forward into the home. The oldest son, gets up from his seat and walks into the hall where his father has fallen. He looks down at his father and with his mind lifts him into the air and back onto his feet. The son then lifts the door with his mind and repaired the door.
The father and son sit down and the family together said Grace. Then they began to eat, the oldest son used his mind to serve the others. The father started talking about his day at work, “so then this huge tree fell down and luckily I was there to catch it on my shoulders before it hit Johnson.” The wife nodding toward her husband would at moments say, “Billy don’t think that at the table!” Or, “Davey I know you’re planning on shooting that pea at your sister, but if you do you’ll be grounded.” The oldest daughter started talking about her day in high school and how she used her heat vision to keep some creep away from her. The youngest daughter started flying around the room but the oldest son Jimmy took hold of her with his mind and sat her back down. The family was a buzz all talking about how great their days were and how they each loved their own powers, even the dog used his rubber ability to sneak his head onto the table and lap up some food. All the while the middle child, young Percy sat with a grimace on his face, he was the only one in the family that didn’t have any powers, he would always eat his dinner as fast as he could then excuse himself to his room to do his homework just to get away from his super family. But sometimes it didn’t work out that well.
“Percy?” asked his father across the table, “How was your day?”
“Fine,” Percy grumbled.
“Did you make sure to check to see if you had any powers today?” The question left a hush over the table, no one spoke.
“No, of course not.”
“Well why not son? You know all of us have powers, even your little sister is floating around the room and she isn’t even potty trained yet.”
By this point Percy was fuming, he took a drumstick from his plate and threw it at his dad. The drumstick stopped mid air and landed back on his plate, his oldest brother smiled brightly.
The dad was not happy about this, and grounded Percy to his room.
“Why am I grounded? Cause I don’t have powers? If I had thrown that with my mind you would have been happy, but because I’m normal I’m a freak!” He walked up to his room and slammed the door behind him. It was on that day that Percy packed up his things and ran away from home, never to see his family ever again.
